The much anticipated Muppets movie that hits right around Thanksgiving has been giving the world delightful trailers that spoof other movies that are being released. Below is the final one before the actual movie hits and this time there’s a little “Paranormal Activity, Happy Feet, Puss in Boots and Twilight” in for the fun.
But there is growing buzz over some muppet purists (and big names associated with the brand) are concerned that Jason Segel has done things with the characters that aren’t true to their personalities or the intentions of the late Jim Henson. There is a feeling that Segel doesn’t understand the characters and had them in places doing things that simply weren’t true to them just for the sake of a joke. An example is the idea of Kermit living in a mansion or the Fozzie fart joke that is featured in the trailer. The biggest voice to express a concern is Frank Oz who was quoted as saying, “I wasn’t happy with the script,” he said bluntly. “I don’t think they respected the characters. But I don’t want to go on about it like a sourpuss and hurt the movie.”
The performance of the movie will be the final decision maker, but even if it is a massive hit it will be interesting to see how purists hold it up to the standards set by Henson and Oz. This Hollywood Report story is a must for anyone interested in what’s brewing here.
