Everyone Needs a Friend, Even a Dead One

Linda Chase is 72, and very, very, very lonely.

Chase is in heaps of big trouble because the body of a dead man, her friend Charles Zigler (right), was found propped up in her living room chair last week.  Zigler was 67 an appears to have died from natural causes.  Chase claims that she kept him around because, “It’s not that I’m heartless. … I didn’t want to be alone. He was the only guy who was ever nice to me,” Chase told the Jackson Citizen Patriot.  Chase reportedly cleaned, dressed and talked to the body and watched NASCAR with it.  Chase says that Zigler died last December.

The other pending issue is that of Zigler’s benefit checks.  He was still getting them, but after he died Chase was cashing them.  She has admitted to it and now faces fraud charges.  Zigler’s family repots that he was a retired machinist and was receiving not only Social Security checks, but also pension and veteran benefits.
