An uncountable number of Star Wars fans have fantasized about swinging a light saber as deftly as Darth Vader.
What many don’t know is that in, “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”, the person actually doing the swinging was a 60 year old world renown fencer, Bob Anderson.
Anderson died at the age of 89 at an English hospital and was the man behind the mask for the famous duel between Vader and his soon-to-find-0ut son, Luke in the beloved second movie of the series. David Prowse, the man that was the actor behind the mask of Vader was unable to get the sword moves correct and ultimately it was left to Anderson to do the job.
Anderson represented Britain in the ’52 Olympics and ’50 and ’53 World Championships. He went on to become a well respected stunt performer and appeared in everything from Bond movies, to The Princess Bride, to even appearances in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
